What’s your remedial action plan against Nigeria’s woes?

Pessimist, Optimist, Leader actions.

The first place to start is the foundation, and I don’t mean to review the amalgamation. It is true that the lack of homogeneity in ethnicity prevents popular uprising against bad governance such as we saw in Indonesia but still, we can start solving our problems by going back to our foundations, which is Law. Nigeria of all nations and more than most nations today is the creation of Law. If it is to work we must enforce the law. True some will need adjustment but a starting point is enforcing the existing laws. This means that the legal institutions have to be strengthened. The leader we need is the one that will shun interference with the legal system so that the existing institutions will evolve intrinsically. This core will reflect on the mounting insecurity, restore trust that returns investment by which the economy will recover. Even our diversity of ethnicity will be an advantage when the Law is supreme. The legislative and judicial institutions will metamorphose and mature. This is the short cut to our recovery as a nation, and the great task before the new government.

Hmm.
Which laws are not being enforced and why not?

Practically every law. In the main there is lip service paid to enforcement, where the connected get away with murder and the poor roast for crimes they did not commit. as an example of what impacts the economy, I was with someone in Abuja who intends to assemble mobile devices and accessories in Nigeria. We identified that substandard products imported by Nigerians from China would be a bane to the business. If our Standards Organisation lived up to its billing, importing such products would be a total loss. that will force any importer to raise the quality f products being imported which would increase their costs, both in taxes and purchase, thereby giving the Nigerian assembled products a marginal advantage. That advantage will mean jobs created and definitely will impact the economy positively. there are a myriad of laws failure of enforcement of which has kept us where we are today. Even the security situation will be impacted upon positively if we are law abiding. Why are they not enforced? The answer is a vicious circle, starting from self aggrandizement. It will advantage me to circumvent a law. I pay the enforcer to look the other way. He breaks the law by looking the other way. that law against him is not enforced, so he keeps looking the other way, while I keep breaking the law. Enforcing the law against corruption will curb corruption because corruption thrives in impunity.

In the spirit of these text, are we not being pessimists?
How can we be leaders?
How can we adjust the sails?

You consider that we’re totally powerless?
